Conference: Flash Memory Summit
Wednesday, August 12, 2009
IEEE-CNSV will have a booth on the Exhibit Floor at this event, allowing CNSV members with a great vehicle for publicizing their skills as well as the merits of our organization. CNSV members also receive special pricing for this conference, and two CNSV members will be awarded full conference admission as well. Many aspects of this event that are free, so register now on the conference website. Join Carl for a morning of "hands-on" training. Carl will lead you step-by-step through the process of setting up a "consulting resume presence" on craigslist. Join Steven Cerri, engineer, consultant, trainer and coach to engineers, for a morning of communication training. IEEE-CNSV member Larry Nagel will talk about the SPICE, the circuit simulation program he first developed while a student at UC Berkeley in the late 1960s. This talk will provide an overview of common programming methods in the cloud, including MapReduce, Hadoop, and Cascading. In this interactive presentation, Jacky Hood will show how service products have eclipsed object products in recent years. She will categorize engineering disciplines into gone, going, and growing. For the growing disciplines, she will explore how engineers and engineering consultants can quickly build on their education and experience to position themselves to profit from the services revolution.

The Flash Memory Summit is a 3-day conference: August 11-13. Registration for the whole conference at earlybird prices, and for free admission to the Exhibition Area and other sessions, is available through Aug. 5 at Flash Memory Summit. CNSV members can save $100 by registering for the full conference using priority code SPGP.

CNSV will have a booth on the Exhibition Area. If you wish to be in the booth during part of the conference to promote your consultancy as well as CNSV, contact Brian A. Berg.

This conference will provide attendees with practical information on the current state of flash memory and its applications. Summit themes include Using Flash Storage in Consumer Applications, Flash as a Disk Replacement and Flash as Nonvolatile Rugged Memory. The program consists of tutorials, panel discussions, keynotes, paper sessions, workshops and special sessions.

Flash Memory is a type of nonvolatile memory that can be erased and rewritten in units called blocks. Flash is rugged, small, low-cost, low-power, and fast. It allows for compact systems with simple startup and low power consumption. It is ideal for consumer applications such as cellphones, digital cameras and music players, and is also useful in computers, communications systems and military/defense applications. It can replace hard disks for storage in applications where its higher cost is balanced by its smaller size, greater ruggedness, and lower power consumption.
