Inter-Personal People Skills; Communication; Management

Steven Cerri is an expert in the inter-personal people skills necessary to successfully transition from engineer to organizational leader and in the soft skills necessary for successful technical management and leadership. He personally has made the transition from engineer, to program manager, to vice president of engineering, to general manager, and now trains and coaches engineers and managers in communication, management, and leadership.

Over the past 14 years Steven has:

  • Coached highly technical engineers from the brink of termination due to lack of communication and inter-personal skills. They are now highly regarded in their organizations.
  • Successfully coached engineers into management positions.
  • Trained engineering managers how to completely turn around antagonistic, win-loose customer relationships and turn them into win-win.
  • Developed landmark work in the areas of transitioning engineers to positions of management and leadership and has trained technical managers in doing the same.

Some of Steven's coaching topics and workshops:

  • Influencing Without Authority
  • Communication Tools for Engineers
  • The Six Functions of the Executive
  • Beyond Customer Service in the Technical Organization
  • So You Want To Be A Manager?
  • Advancing Up the Technology Management Ladder

Steven is contributing author to the IEEE book "The Balanced Engineer, Essential Ideas for Career Development", and has been published in ASME magazine. He has trained internationally in China, Italy, England and Hong Kong.

He is an adjunct professor at UC Santa Barbara, teaching management and communication in the Engineering Department's Technology Management Program. He has taught at UC Berkeley and Pepperdine, is Vice Chair of AIAA, and is a member of SVEC and ASTD.

    Steven's degrees:

  • BS: Aeronautical Engineering
  • MS: Geophysics
  • MBA

He has worked in both DoD and commercial environments, and is currently CNSV Secretary.
